The Ovangers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you help us with lodging?

Oscar may be able to help accommodate our friends traveling internationally. If you’re interested, please contact him directly about lodging. You can also find hotel and Airbnb options on our Your Stay page.

What’s your origin story?

We met in April 2024 for a first date at Lolo, a wine bar in Austin, after messaging on Hinge. Oscar was a visiting researcher at UT Austin while Amber was doing her PhD. Before our first date, Oscar competed in a triathlon in California, which Amber thought was really cool. We talked for four hours at Lolo, and everything flowed naturally.

Our second date was at Barton Springs. Somehow, we were too nervous to really talk to one another, so we defaulted to swimming—and that got us laughing.

We’re proud of the ways we complement one another: Oscar is an elite athlete, and Amber leans into her artistic side. Together, we enjoy reading, movies, swimming, hanging out with our dog Lana, tennis lessons, traveling, cooking, and cheering on our UT Longhorns.

We hope to improve at yard work over the course of our marriage.

What should I pack?

Bring layers, a warm sweater, a waterproof jacket, and comfortable walking shoes for exploring. If you plan to hike, pack suitable hiking footwear and outdoor clothing as well. We’ll share the wedding dress code separately.

What if I can’t make it to Norway? Can we celebrate in the US?

Of course. We understand that traveling to Norway won’t be possible for everyone. If you’d like to celebrate with us in your US city, we’d love that—please reach out so we can find a time together. Your love and support mean so much to us, wherever we celebrate.

Will it get dark at night?

Our wedding falls during Tromsø’s midnight-sun season, so it will stay light through the night. A sleep mask may come in handy! You can read more about the midnight sun on the Fjellheisen website.

Can we see the northern lights in July?

The summer nights are too bright to see the northern lights. Instead, you’ll get to experience the midnight sun.

When and where is the wedding?

We’re getting married on Saturday, July 10, 2027, in Tromsø, Norway. The ceremony will take place at 3 PM at Tromsø Domkirke, where Oscar was confirmed. Transportation will be provided to Fjellheisen, where the reception begins at 6 PM.

When should I arrive, and how long should I stay?

We recommend arriving in time for the welcome party at Hildr on Thursday, July 8 at 5 PM. There will also be an optional boat excursion on Friday, July 9, and a farewell toast on Sunday, July 11. Join us for whatever your schedule allows.

Which airport should I fly into?

Please book your journey to Tromsø Airport (TOS). Our Travel page includes suggested airlines and connecting cities.

Where should I stay?

We recommend downtown Tromsø (Tromsø sentrum). Our group hotel is The Dock 69°39 by Scandic, and our booking code is PROMO1890. Find the booking link on our Your Stay page. You’ll also find other hotel and Airbnb options there.

Do I need to stay at the group hotel?

Not at all! Please choose accommodation that suits your preferences and budget. Staying downtown will make it easier to join the celebrations.

Will transportation be provided on the wedding day?

Yes, transportation will be provided from the church to Fjellheisen for the reception. Pickup times and cable-car arrangements will be shared with the finalized itinerary.

How do we reach the reception?

The reception is at a mountain viewpoint above Tromsø, reached by the Fjellheisen cable car. The ride takes approximately four minutes. Please let us know if you have any accessibility needs so we can discuss the arrangements with you.

What can we do in our free time?

Our Things to Do page includes Oscar’s recommendations for cafés, restaurants, drinks, beaches, museums, kayaking, and hikes of different difficulty levels.

Are the additional activities required?

No—the Friday boat excursion is optional. We hope you’ll have time to explore, relax, and enjoy Tromsø at your own pace.

When will the final schedule be available?

Details will be finalized and updated on the Itinerary page by January 2027. All event times are local to Norway.

Should we bring a gift?

Your presence is the greatest gift we could ask for. We’re grateful for the time and effort it takes to celebrate with us in Norway. Gifts are entirely optional.

I’ve never been to Norway. Who can I contact with questions?

Please reach out to Amber or Oscar with any questions or concerns about the trip or wedding. We’re planning this celebration together with our families and a planner associated with Fjellheisen, and we’ll coordinate with them as needed to help you.
